Brenda Krage Board of Education.jpg

Thank you for being a part of this exciting conversation about the future of education in Colorado.

Education has been my lifelong career and passion and I couldn't be more excited to announce my candidacy for our Colorado Board of Education.

I'd be honored to earn your vote and hope to meet with you as I travel our beautiful  Congressional District 3 in the weeks ahead.

34 years of frontline experience

For over three decades, I've taught in Colorado classrooms, managed schools, designed curriculum, led jobs-focused career and technical education programs, created successful preschool programs, and served nine years as a superintendent.

I've also contributed to important state-level problem solving organizations, with service on the Rural Schools Alliance Board and the Colorado Association of School Executives, helping to craft state policy and solutions.

In 2022, I was honored to earn the Superintendent of the Year Award from the Colorado Association of School Executives.

I'm also a proud past member of public service boards including the Pueblo Zoo and the Pueblo Community College - Fremont Advisory Board, and served as Chairperson of the Fremont Multidistrict Initiative.

It's been my honor to serve Colorado's rural and urban schools, gaining practical insight into the unique needs of our diverse 3rd Congressional communities.

I've helped turnaround struggling small schools and led multi-district partnerships spanning small and large, agrarian and metropolitan economies.

I've also had the chance to build partnerships with community colleges, strengthening rural education to career pathways for our students.

DR. MOM

I'm a proud mother to three Colorado schools graduates and just welcomed our family's first grandchild.

I wanted my children to get the best education possible and, after earning a degree in Secondary Education at the University of Wyoming, I continued on to earn a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction at University of Colorado - Colorado Springs and a Doctorate in Education at the University of Denver.

My husband Sam and I have been married for 34 years.

MY SERVICE

Dr. Brenda Krage is currently the Superintendent of Fremont Re-2 School District.  She will retire in June of 2024 with more than 34 years of experience in education.

Dr. Krage has a proven track record as a systems thinker and an advocate for public education. Her leadership roles in rural and urban school districts have provided an excellent balance of experiences between contrasting demographics: size, achievement, socio-economic diversity, ethnic diversity, and student/community at-risk factors.  Brenda has had a successful career because she has mastered the art of working collaboratively and bringing groups to middle-ground, in order to do what is best for students and staff.

In fact, Dr. Krage’s emphasis on innovation guided her work in her current district, Fremont Re-2, where she has built upon strong career and technical education programs, turned around the district’s culture of teaching and learning, fully reconfigured the district’s schools, created successful preschool programs, and stabilized enrollment.

The Colorado Association of School Executives (CASE) named Dr. Brenda Krage as the Colorado Superintendent of the Year for 2022. At the time, Dr. Krage was only the fifth honoree from a rural school district within the previous 22 years. In 2018, she was selected as 1 of 4 Colorado educators to travel and study the Finnish education system. She has been recognized by the Community College System for her work in Career and Technical education and supporting matriculation of students from secondary to post-secondary training and education.

Dr. Krage holds a Ph. D. in Educational Leadership, from the University of Denver, a Masters of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Wyoming.

Her career experiences include twenty-six years in leadership roles such as a coordinator of Career and Technical education programs, curriculum specialist, assistant principal, executive director for secondary education, assistant superintendent for learning services, and she has served as a Colorado superintendent during the past nine years. She also has eight years of classroom teaching experience.

Dr. Krage currently serves on the Rural Schools Alliance Board.  Previously she served as president of the Colorado Association of School Executives – School Superintendent group and the CASE Coordinating Council and Legislative committees. Within her primary communities of Pueblo and Fremont County, she has served on various boards such as the Pueblo Zoo, Pueblo Community College - Fremont Advisory Board, and is the Chairperson of the Fremont Multidistrict Initiative.

Dr. Krage has been married for 34 years to her husband Sam. She is the mother of 3 adult children and recently celebrated the addition of their first grandchild.
